Author of Random Bullets, The Hostile, Holiday for The Hostile, The Hostile Game, Confronting The Hostile, The Hostile Series Box Set, Potholes and Magic Carpets, Living with Postcards, Her demonic Angel, the Mug Trilogy, and The Trouble With Liam.
I’m Jersey-born and lived on the island for 18 years before working as a graphic designer for 20 years in Kent. I’m now a full-time indie author living in Oldham. I published my 13th book, The Trouble With Liam, on Amazon in October 2018 and am writing The Trouble With Russell, and The Trouble With Trouble.
Random Bullets is a contemporary crime thriller with a paranormal twist. Set mainly in Jersey, Manchester, Cornwall, London, and places not of this world. http://amzn.to/2ahXcc4
The Trouble With Liam is a psychological crime thriller set in Ireland and Sheffield. https://amzn.to/2yUBSY4
The Hostile, Holiday for The Hostile, The Hostile Game, Confronting The Hostile, Random Bullets, Potholes and Magic Carpets, A Slice of the Seventies, Her demonic Angel, and The Trouble With Liam are all available on Amazon, Audible, and iTunes as audiobooks.
Most of my 13 Kindle editions are £0.99 or equivalent currencies on Amazon and always free to Kindle Unlimited subscribers. The paperback versions won’t break the bank either. The Kindle of The Hostile Series Box Set is only £2.30, which is a bargain for four full-length books.

Since 2007, I’ve written, designed, published, and marketed thirteen books single-handed, which makes me an indie author. In 2015, I decided to publish all my books on Amazon in both paperback and Kindle editions. Nine are also available as audiobooks on Audible, Amazon, and iTunes.
My first three books are loosely autobiographical and form the Mug Trilogy. Then followed Potholes and Magic Carpets, a contemporary character-driven novel following the tangled lives of four couples. Random Bullets is a contemporary crime thriller with a paranormal twist. Also in 2015, I wrote, designed and published my only non-fiction book, the fully colour-illustrated Living with Postcards.
In February 2016, I published fourteen of my short stories called Her demonic Angel written in various genres. There’s bound to be something for everyone to enjoy. Her demonic Angel is available in paperback and Kindle as well as an audiobook that I narrated myself. The audiobook is for sale on Amazon, Audible, and iTunes.
In 2016, I published Kindle, paperback, and audiobook editions of another contemporary crime thriller with a paranormal twist called The Hostile. In December 2016, I published Holiday for The Hostile, book two in The Hostile. series. Book three of The Hostile series, The Hostile Game, was published in April 2017. I published book four, Confronting The Hostile, in August 2017 along with The Hostile Series Box Set. The four books in The Hostile series have audiobook editions on Audible, Amazon, and iTunes, narrated by Alexander Doddy.
In 2018, I published a psychological crime thriller called The Trouble With Liam. I am currently working on The Trouble With Russell and The Trouble With Trouble.
Nine of my books are available as audiobooks on Audible, Amazon, and iTunes.
I’d love to hear what you think of all my books, and would greatly appreciate a review from you on Amazon and Goodreads.

A bit about me
I was born in Jersey in the Channel Islands, too many decades ago to mention. I went by the almost unpronounceable name of Joy Houiellebecq until my marriage in 1984, when I became Joy Mutter. I was a professional graphic designer for twenty years after gaining a Graphic Design Degree in Coventry. I lived in London for a year before moving to Kent, where I lived for over twenty years. During my time in Kent, I worked as a graphic designer and became a wife, mother, and divorcee.
After developing a chronic back condition in 2012, not wishing to claim benefits I took the bold, some might say foolhardy action of selling my house in Kent and moving to the north of England in order to help fund my long-held ambition of becoming a full-time published author. I now spend most of my days, including weekends and holidays, writing, designing, publishing on Amazon, and marketing my books in Kindle, paperback. Eight have audiobook editions.
I have a small bookshelf a few feet from where I write my books. It contains a copy of each of my books. The sculpture is by my brother, Steven, who lives in Portugal with his family. He used to be a prolific self-taught sculptor before suffering a severe stroke several years ago.
MY BOOKS
The Trouble With Liam
THE TROUBLE WITH LIAM was published on Amazon on 1.10.2018. It is a powerful psychological thriller set in Ireland and Sheffield. It tells the story of the life of Liam O’Sullivan in all its twisted glory. It begins with tales of his challenging childhood in Dublin and follows him through sometimes tragic events which change him into a misogynistic, controlling, ultimately lethal bully living in Sheffield. Liam thought he could do as he pleased … until he was taught otherwise. Prepare to be shocked in different ways throughout the book. If you’re not a fan of thrillers or reading books containing violence, sex, and swearing, please avoid The Trouble With Liam. If you enjoy lashings of dark humour, situations to make your eyes pop out of your head, thrills of every kind, all wrapped up in a gripping, dramatic storyline, please read on.
In a rundown area of Manchester, inside a bathroom in a small, terraced house overflowing with children and dysfunctional parents, an unfathomable, powerful entity infiltrates twelve-year-old Serena’s life with disastrous effects. The enigmatic force not only dramatically affects introverted Serena’s life but threatens the well-being of everyone she knows, especially those people who for some reason have earned the strange girl’s displeasure. It soon becomes clear that nobody should ever upset Serena if they know what’s good for them. After reading The Hostile, you will never again look at DIY in the same way.
The Hostile is a contemporary thriller with a heavy sprinkling of paranormal. It is in a similar vein to my previous thriller, Random Bullets, but with more emphasis on the paranormal than in my earlier book.
The Hostile is available in paperback and Kindle editions on Amazon and is also available on Audible, Amazon and iTunes as an audiobook.

Her demonic Angel was published in February 2016. It is a baker’s dozen of all of my short stories written thus far. The stories have been written in a variety of genres so there should be something for everyone. Some tales are stranger than others, but all could be said to be different shades of dark. Despite its somewhat suggestive title, Her demonic Angel is not erotic fiction.

Living with Postcards
This non-fiction book describes my close relationship with old postcards, mainly fantasy ones. I have collected them since the 1970s and now own over two thousand of these charming, beautiful, historic items. I started fanatically collecting them whilst writing my thesis on Fantasy in Postcards at Art College, where I was studying for a graphic design degree. My thesis won me a first with distinction, whereas my graphic art annoyingly gained me only a 2:2. I was asked by my art history tutor to lecture on the subject of Fantasy in Postcards, but as I was only twenty-one at the time I didn’t feel ready and declined. I decided to write this book instead. All of the cards in Living with Postcards are from my own collection.
A Slice of the Seventies – Book One of The Mug Trilogy
Set against the colourful backdrop of the 1970s, this first book in the Mug Trilogy tells the story of Jersey-born Mug, a troubled girl from a recently broken home. It covers her time as a sixteen-year-old at the Isle of Wight Music Festival in 1970, the year that she followed a guru and tracks her tumultuous time as an art student in Coventry. It then tells of her relationship with fellow student, David, her dealings with his vile ex and the dramatic events that lead on from their graduation.
An audiobook edition of A Slice of the Seventies, narrated by Tracey Norman, is available on Audible, Amazon, and iTunes.

The Lying Scotsman – Book Two of The Mug Trilogy
The words in this loosely autobiographical book were triggered by the entanglement between Mug, a recently divorced, disinherited, temporarily sex-obsessed woman, and Michael, a complex, mendacious Scottish baggage handler. Destiny threw this Gordian knot her way one night in early 2004. She was an honest, trusting, troubled woman in her late forties. He was an enigma in his late thirties who was hiding many shocking secrets. Her original plan was to write about their unusual story as a Christmas gift to him. It nearly killed him. She had wanted to take the opportunity to describe her life prior to their meeting because it shaped how she felt about him, why she tolerated what others might deem unacceptable and dictated how she lived her future life. The purpose of this book drastically changed into a desperate effort to make sense of unfolding, bizarre events, and to help them both deal with the aftermath.
The aftermath of Mug’s time after being whirled in The Lying Scotsman’s vortex. This book documents her struggles to achieve a happy outcome in her relationship with men, family, work and life in general. It is the third book in the loosely autobiographical Mug Trilogy. Who will be Mug’s final straw?
The main action takes place in rural Kent and London in 2015. It looks at the dramatic incidents, challenges and temptations in the past and present lives of four couples of varying ages, professions and sexual persuasions that are all linked by either blood or friendship. The negative, selfish, sometimes violent natures of some of the characters in Potholes and Magic Carpets wreak havoc on the innocent. A tale of not so simple folk.
